NYX has several new releases and one strikes me in particular because of it’s extreme resemblance to a longstanding, sort of lone ranger on the market; Make Up For Ever Aqua Brow.
For some facts & manufacture claims:
Make Up For Ever Aqua Brow
Size: 5ml ($4 per ml)
# of shades: 7
Waiting for Response from MUFE if this is Cruelty Free
A waterproof eyebrow corrector that fills, defines and lengthens brows.
If you want to purchase Make Up For Ever it is sold at Sephora & Sephora.com as well as some Makeup Artist Suppliers. makeupforever.com is currently not selling product online. Sephora typically offers 20% off coupon in the fall if you are enrolled in their VIB program.
NYX Eyebrow Gel
Size: 10 ml ($0.70 per ml)
# of shades: 5
Keep your misbehaving brows in place with our discreet and easy-to-use brow gel! The lightweight, waterproof formula creates thicker, fuller, natural-looking brows and comes in five versatile shades.
• What it does: Fills and shapes brow providing a long-wear result.
• Why we love it: The smudge–free, waterproof formula seals brows in place.
• How to use: Using an angled brush, dip into gel and outline the perfect brow. Fill in sparse areas and blend with a clean spoolie brush.
(Note: NYX Cosmetics is certified and acknowledged by organizations, such as PETA, as a cruelty free brand. NYX is committed to producing 100% cruelty-free cosmetics. NYX does not test any of its raw materials or finished products on animals.)
If you want to purchase the NYX it can be found at Ulta, CVS, nyxcosmetics.com, and some Beauty Supply stores. At Ulta and CVS you can wait until they are either 40% off, Buy One get One 50% off, and other assorted coupons.
Another semi-comparable product is Anastasia Dip Brow, it is very similar in application and result but is a potted product rather than a squeeze tube. For the average consumer it may be more user friendly to open a pot rather than squeeze product out on your hand or tray. For the MUA I think the tubes are more piece of mind because they are easier to keep sanitized and you do have to not worry that someone used it improperly while you weren’t looking and contaminated it. Dip Brow runs $18 for .14 oz (4.14029 ml) or $4.35 per ml for comparison. It is available in 8 shades.
My personal thoughts:
I have not seen either full shade range in person so it’s hard for me to compare. These products are often sold out or not stocked well. Aqua Brow was my first find and I was thrilled that they offered an Ash Shade because when I am close to natural on my hair color that is a really good match and I struggle to find brow products that are ash tone.
The NYX is a really good product. I think it wears just as well if not better than the Aqua Brow. Since the price is so much cheaper for the NYX I think it is the better buy. I don’t really think one product is better than the other, it might just depend for you on which one carries a shade that is best suited for you. $20 for Aqua Brow is not unreasonable because it will last you forever. But when you can get an almost identical product with double volume for $7 I can see where MUFE may start to loose some business.
Cudos to NYX for releasing such a great product. At this price I will defiantly be stocking up with them in my kit. And extra points for being a Cruelty Free Line!
